Dr. John Breeding, Ph.D. Psychologist, talks about depression. In this video he discusses the how psychology and psychiatry differ from their approach to depression. Is depression really a chemical imbalance in the brain or a psychological problem? Often time people are given antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin.

SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are often promoted as correcting chemical imbalances in the brain but there is no proof that depression or mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain nor is there any proof that antidepressants correct an imbalance. These medications often time have horrible side effects like agitation and sexual dysfunction.

This is a different view of depression.

In this video Dr. Breeding will discuss tips on how to recover from depression, become a more happy person.

    Suicide and …
Suicide and depression can be a little tricky. How could take away your life if your energy is so low that you couldn’t even leave the bed? Psychiatrists say it happens in “mixed states” of bipolar disorder, when energy is at peak but there is no way you can find joy at anything.

So, here again we watch psychiatry contradiction when they relate depression and suicide.

    I disagree. I, too, …
I disagree. I, too, subscribe to atheism but even so it does diminish my and your need to feel needed and appreciated for whatever we choose to do. Dr. Breeding and others merely refer to it as a purpose. As Shakespeare once wrote, a rose by any other name still smells as sweet. In short, let us not quibble over terminology and fail to see the forest for the trees.

My sex drive is non existent and has been for around 10 months… on this AD which is probably not helping. Mind you I’m a 20 year old male… and my doctor thinks it might be helping so he doesn’t want me to stop taking them… I say they aren’t doing but he warns me… my experience with the docs, shrinks, etc. has sucked donkey balls… bunch of arrogant who claim to have the solution when they dont

welcome to the club. you are so not alone. Does that help at least a bit? Also some food for thought: maybe it’s a bigger invitation for “growth and transformation” as Dr. Breeding puts it? Personally, I’d like to reward myself with a thought that it’s me who is breaking the vicious circle of pain, hurting others and deep denial my parents are living/lived with;)

    I totally agree …
I totally agree that people get depressed over different things that happen in life! It also true that people find humor in different things as well. Your original post for example:

“I feel very depressed becuse i had paid sex with an ugly girl and she stunk very badly and i think that she gave me an std and i also kissed her in the mouth yuck…”

This was just sooo hilarious and it was hard for me to take seriously…I mean, jeez….

Thank you for posting this and other videos. They/you are truly helpful to me at this stage in my life. I was reluctantly contemplating meds, but I believe that maintaining awareness that my depression at this juncture makes sense, I will come through it faster & with better results. I plan on returning to your videos as needed. Thanks

well, i was doing kick boxing 10h a week! And still, i’m falling everyday more and more into my depression… what can I do about that… well i try to kill myself. And then i went to a psychiatrist… and then i told him that i don’t wanna take drugs and he insisted so much… and now, even so i had a good nutrition, a good life stile (no smoke, no alcool, no drugs…), nothing is hepling me. I just wanna die. good news.
